Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Internal Medicine Physician to join our team as a Hospitalist. As a Hospitalist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, teaching and mentoring learners, and contributing to the advancement of inpatient care at the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Education: Provide clinical instruction and supervision to medical students, residents, and other learners on inpatient services, including the General Medicine Teaching Service, Medicine Consult Service, and Bedside Procedure Service.
  • Research and Quality Improvement: Participate in clinical and administrative research, performance improvement initiatives, and quality improvement projects to advance the field of inpatient care.
  • Service and Leadership: Collaborate with institutional staff and administration to achieve strategic objectives, including patient safety, patient satisfaction, and fiscal health.
  • Clinical Care: Admit, manage, and discharge patients on hospitalist-led inpatient services, co-manage patients on other services, and provide high-quality consultative services to other specialties.
Requirements
  • Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine
  • Direct experience managing complex inpatients
  • A solid understanding of the hospitalist role and function
  • An interest in academic work, including teaching, professional development, and quality improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated achievement as an educator, scholar, clinician, and/or leader
  • Experience working with advanced practice providers to support optimal care
