Key Responsibilities

  5. Records vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and pain scores, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  6. Maintains proficiency in the use of patient care equipment, such as blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, and other medical devices.
  7. Assists with patient treatments, including repositioning and pre-operative preparations.
  8. Documents and records procedures, ensuring accurate monitoring of oxygen levels and other vital metrics.
  9. Communicates significant changes in patient status to the registered nurse promptly.
  10. Collaborates effectively with the RN and other healthcare team members, as well as patients and their families.
  11. Supports the patient discharge process, ensuring a smooth transition and assisting the RN as needed.
  12. Participates in hourly patient rounds and responds to patient needs in a timely manner.
  13. Assists with post-mortem care and transportation of the deceased as delegated.
  14. Implements safety measures to ensure the well-being of patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  15. Verifies patient dietary information prior to meal service and ensures appropriate meal delivery.
  16. Collects meal trays and documents patient intake and appetite assessments.
  17. Maintains a clean and organized patient environment.
  18. Engages in departmental meetings and training sessions.
  19. Continuously updates competencies and participates in patient safety initiatives.
  20. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and organizational information.
  21. Demonstrates basic computer skills and familiarity with department-specific software.
  22. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Core Competencies

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Must have completed an approved Certified Nursing Assistant Level II Acute Care course.

Licensure: Indiana CNA license required. CPR certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire.

Experience: Minimum of 6 months as a Patient Care Assistant or Nurse Technician in an acute care setting, or completion of 2 clinical semesters in nursing school. One year of experience in an acute or ambulatory environment is preferred.

Additional Requirements:

Proficient in computer usage and department-specific software.

Ability to adapt to changing workloads and patient assignments.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a patient-centered environment.

Knowledge of basic nursing practices and principles of body mechanics.

Awareness of safety practices in a healthcare setting.

Work hours and shifts may vary based on departmental needs.
