The Manufacturing Team Leader is responsible for guiding team members within a designated area by providing essential training, monitoring daily performance metrics related to safety, quality, and productivity, and assisting the Group Leader with necessary departmental tasks to meet overall organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Front-Line Leader, prioritizing team safety, product quality, and operational efficiency while adhering to established standards.
- Collaborate in the creation of standardized work procedures by documenting the most effective work sequences for each process.
- Engage in safety, quality, productivity, and cost improvement initiatives utilizing principles and tools from the Toyota Production System (TPS).
- Maintain a training matrix for the team, ensuring training effectiveness and addressing any performance issues promptly during daily assessments.
- Facilitate the onboarding of new team members by breaking down standardized work processes and providing ongoing support.
- Execute all policies and procedures consistently and fairly.
- Anticipate potential issues and devise innovative solutions proactively.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives as a coach or mentor to operators.
- Provide clear direction to operators regarding daily assignments and area requirements.
- Conduct production readiness checks before shifts and complete post-shift evaluations.
- Utilize key performance indicators to drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Track hourly production performance by maintaining a Production Analysis Board for each process.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate Degree in Manufacturing or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience of three years in a production or manufacturing setting.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficient in developing training materials using the Job Instruction method (training will be provided).
- Capable of delivering training to team members based on identified needs.
- Ability to perform basic data analysis and reasoning.
- Competent in reading and interpreting production-related documents, including technical data and safety regulations.
- Basic understanding of the Toyota Production System (TPS).
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Outstanding collaboration, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
- Foster team member relationships built on trust and cooperation.
- Detail-oriented with a logical approach to problem-solving.
- Perceptive and able to relate to individuals at all organizational levels.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage tasks independently.
- Adaptable in a dynamic work environment.
- Proficient in multitasking and providing leadership during problem resolution.
- Effective communicator in a multicultural setting.
Language Proficiency:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
Work Environment:
The role is situated in an open office environment with moderate noise levels. The manufacturing area presents a standard automotive plant environment with similar noise levels, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, hard hats, and reflective vests.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the team member must be able to talk, see, and hear. The role requires the ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Proficiency in sitting and working on a computer is also necessary.
