Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate within a cohesive team of civil, water resource, and electrical engineers, ecologists, regulatory specialists, surveyors, transportation designers, project managers, attorneys, and landscape architects to develop comprehensive site civil plans and specifications for various renewable energy infrastructure projects, emphasizing sustainability and resilience.
- Engage with clients, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to understand their goals and address design and permitting challenges.
- Represent VHB at technical conferences, symposia, recruitment events, and industry learning opportunities.
- Oversee tasks related to project site civil and construction elements.
- Prepare design documentation from initial schematic design through to construction documents.
- Assist in the creation of site civil-related permitting materials.
- Conduct technical and design report writing.
- Design stormwater management systems for construction and operational phases.
- Provide technical support during project construction.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Self-driven with a strong ability to think critically and creatively.
- Exceptional verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient in completing plans and conducting peer reviews, offering constructive feedback.
- Familiarity with local and state permitting requirements for renewable or utility energy projects.
- Collaborate effectively with designers and CADD technicians to produce drawings that meet national design standards and client specifications.
- Ability to manage tasks and deliverables in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality outputs.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in site/civil engineering, preferably in a consulting or private sector role.
- 5-8 years of experience is preferred.
- EIT or PE certification is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.
- Experience with GIS, HydroCAD, and StormCAD is advantageous.
- Familiarity with energy-specific siting and performance tools, such as PVSyst, PVCase, or HelioScope, is a plus.
