About the Role:

Position Overview

The Medical Transport shift supervisor ensures that both emergency and non-emergency patient transportation, along with related communications, are executed with professionalism and efficiency. The responsibilities of direct reports encompass the treatment and transportation of patients requiring ambulance services, mental health transport, wheelchair van services, and emergency medical communications. The supervisor is responsible for monitoring daily transportation operations to ensure that clinical needs and patient length of stay are not compromised. Additionally, the supervisor must continuously evaluate staff morale and implement or suggest strategies that foster teamwork and a positive work environment.



Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or Certifications: Georgia Licensed Paramedic.
  • Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of full-time EMS experience.

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of patient transportation logistics for a multi-campus system.
  • Strong understanding of the Medicare definition of medical necessity as it pertains to ambulance services.
  • Proficient in conflict resolution techniques.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage staff positively.
  • Skill in assessing and mitigating risks when making command decisions.
  • Recognizes the significance of effective communication.
  • Capable of troubleshooting computer and communication-related equipment.
  • Flexibility to fill any line-level position within Medical Transport to prevent staffing shortages.


Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Receives and schedules all requests for various levels of patient transportation.
  • Ensures that patients receive timely, safe, and efficient transportation.
  • Generates reports summarizing daily activities of incoming and outgoing patient transportation.
  • Effectively facilitates the onboarding process for new staff members.
  • Manages the staffing schedule to allocate resources appropriately.
  • Prepares staff and responds to emergent situations such as 'Ambulance Diversion' and 'Code Triage.'
  • Facilitates early administrative notification of variances as defined by departmental policy.
  • Monitors compliance of staff with departmental policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Ensures accurate reporting of variances.
  • Conducts initial investigations of variances.
  • Continuously evaluates employee relations, rewarding and recognizing those who meet departmental expectations while addressing issues early when expectations are not met.
  • Responds promptly to internal and external customer concerns.
  • Oversees the pre-hospital direction of inbound ambulances, ensuring that destination decisions align with campus capabilities and capacities.
