The California Department of Insurance seeks a highly skilled Chief Health Actuary to lead the formulation of health actuarial policy and perform high-level administrative functions.

Job Overview

We are looking for an exceptional professional with broad experience in health insurance principles and actuarial science to join our team as Chief Health Actuary.

This role requires expertise in analyzing complex problems, recommending effective courses of action, and preparing and reviewing reports. As a member of our executive staff, you will advise top-level administrators on administrative matters and develop cooperative working relationships with government representatives, the public, and industry executives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate health actuarial policy and procedures
  • Analyze administrative policies, organization, procedures, and practices
  • Plan, organize, and direct the work of multidisciplinary professional and administrative staff
  • Develop and implement programs to attain common goals
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Broad and extensive experience in a position with duties equivalent to that of a Senior Health Actuary Officer
  • Ability to perform high-level administrative functions and formulate health actuarial policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated history of applying knowledge of health insurance principles and actuarial science in complex situations
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with top-level administrators, government representatives, and industry executives
