Role Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer specializing in Rotating Systems plays a crucial role in enhancing plant performance through the maintenance and optimization of machinery. Key responsibilities include monitoring reliability metrics, executing solutions, and formulating maintenance strategies. This position is safety-sensitive and requires onsite presence, reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager within the Maintenance and Reliability team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expertise in Rotating Equipment: Provide specialized knowledge in rotating machinery, including piping systems and stationary equipment.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure adherence to PSM Mechanical Integrity standards in machinery practices and documentation.
- Support for Reliability Technicians: Analyze condition monitoring data and provide actionable recommendations.
- Repair Coordination: Collaborate with the maintenance team to oversee machinery repairs and ensure proper documentation.
- Maintenance Procedure Development: Revise and enhance critical maintenance procedures for rotating equipment.
- Safety Audits: Lead Rotating Equipment Safety and Reliability Audits, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
- Reliability Enhancement: Report on Mean Time Between Repairs (MTBR) for rotating equipment and implement strategies to improve reliability and minimize maintenance costs.
- Troubleshooting Leadership: Direct troubleshooting initiatives for onsite rotating equipment challenges, conducting failure analyses and documenting findings.
- Emergency Technical Support: Provide expert assistance for urgent machinery issues outside of regular hours.
- Best Practices Representation: Serve on the corporate best practice team for rotating equipment.
- Project Management: Oversee projects related to machinery upgrades or replacements.
- Equipment Specification: Assist in the specification and review of new rotating equipment, including recommendations for spare parts.
- Condition Monitoring Contribution: Engage in onsite equipment condition monitoring activities, such as vibration analysis and oil sampling.
- Preventive Maintenance Program Design: Create and implement predictive and preventive maintenance strategies for critical machinery.
- Turnaround and Shutdown Planning: Support the maintenance department in planning site turnarounds and special projects.
- Inventory Review: Assess spare parts inventory and suggest necessary adjustments.
- Engineering Oversight: Supervise basic design, detailed engineering, and procurement activities for rotating equipment.
- Fixed Equipment Assistance: Provide support to plant engineering on fixed equipment-related tasks.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in rotating equipment engineering within a chemical manufacturing or refinery environment.
- Industry Familiarity: Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment utilized in the production of anhydrous ammonia and urea fertilizers.
- Technical Expertise: Proficient in rotating and reciprocating machinery practices, failure analysis, vibration analysis, precision alignment, and baseplate grouting.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industrial codes and standards (API, ASME, ANSI, OSHA, State).
