Position Title: Program Support Specialist

Department: Special Education Services

Reports To: Executive Director of Special Education Services

Contract Duration: 10 months

Pay Structure: Salary based on Program Support Specialist scale

Employment Status: Exempt

Work Hours: 8 hours daily

Union Affiliation: NEA

Required Licensure: NMPED PreK-12 Special Education Teacher Level II

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates professional growth, onsite mentorship, and advisory support for educational personnel.
  • Conducts research and develops training programs for staff enhancement.
  • Assists educational teams in devising strategies and interventions for students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Participates in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as required.
  • Engages in mandatory professional development related to Special Education.
  • Provides support to schools in recognizing and addressing the needs of students with autism.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Level II PreK-12 Special Education Teacher with experience in autism education.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Special Education and a minimum of six years of experience in public educational settings.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to cultivate relationships with educational teams, families, and students.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to solve problems.
  • Strong observational skills for providing effective technical support to educators.
  • Expertise in consultation, professional development, and coaching for educators working with students with ASD.

Key Job Functions:

  • Assists in the creation, execution, and evaluation of educational intervention strategies.
  • Consults with schools on the identification of students with autism.
  • Helps interpret IEPs and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Facilitates and enhances professional development for teachers in evidence-based methodologies.

Compensation Range: $53,915 to $65,868+

Work Environment:

Position primarily conducted in an office or educational setting, requiring effective communication through speech, vision, and hearing. Frequent travel may be necessary.

Accountability Standards:

  • Exhibits reliability through consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Properly informs supervisor of any absences or delays.
  • Utilizes equipment responsibly and appropriately.
