Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our critical care team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to those requiring respiratory therapy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and administer therapeutic modalities as prescribed by physicians, ensuring appropriateness and communicating with nurses and physicians as needed.
  • Perform patient assessments prior to and after therapies, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Administer various respiratory care modalities, achieving desired outcomes and documenting patient responses accordingly.
  • Evaluate patient responses to therapy and refer unusual or adverse responses to appropriate individuals for further intervention.
  • Suggest modifications to treatment plans based on patient assessments.
  • Participate in patient and family education regarding therapy goals, medication use, breathing exercises, and oxygen therapy.
  • Gather and update clinical data for use in patient treatment, documenting processes according to department policy.
  • Utilize the clinical information system and operate equipment according to department policies.
  • Perform in emergency situations, utilizing resuscitative techniques, airway management, and equipment.
  • Provide respiratory care and support for patients requiring transportation.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and perform EKGs and arterial blood specimen collection.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy with a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with 18 months to obtain RRT credential.
  • Current State of Connecticut License is required.
  • Cross-trained staff in Cardiology, Pulmonary Lab, and Pulmonary Rehabilitation may require additional certification and training.
