Cytology Specialist

OSF HealthCare is seeking a skilled Cytotechnologist to participate in complex tasks involved in screening slides of clinical specimens for evidence of cancer or other pathological conditions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cytology and laboratory procedures, with excellent analytical and technical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in highly complex, technically specialized tasks involved in screening slides of clinical specimens for evidence of cancer or other pathological conditions.
Document findings and activities according to departmental terminology and protocols, including marking abnormalities, rendering diagnoses, and determining cases for quality control or subsequent review by a pathologist.
Perform routine quality control, participate in cellular evaluations for specimen adequacy, provide procedural support, and perform specimen processing as needed.
Assist with the technical oversight and direction of routine cytology processing procedures to ensure high-quality, diagnostic throughput in the department.
Requirements:
Bachelor Degree with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited cytology program.
One year of Laboratory experience.
CT (ASCP) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of full-time experience as a certified CT in a Cytology Laboratory.
Technical Skills:
Technical expertise necessary to interpret tests, recognize abnormal test results, validate and optimize new testing platforms, synthesize complex technical procedures, and troubleshoot technical or equipment issues.
Analytical skills necessary to interpret and determine appropriate specimen preparation method and evaluate suitability of slides and stains produced.
Interpersonal Skills:
Ability to work on several projects at one time with good organizational skills, judgment, and technical skills.
Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other healthcare professionals.
High level of professionalism and skillful performance in stressful situations.
