As a Principal Automation Engineer, Site Services, you will be part of the Facility Systems & Plant Engineering (FSPE) team, supporting the safe and efficient operation of automation systems at Genentech's South San Francisco and Dixon sites.

This critical role acts as a Technical System Owner, overseeing various Building Automation platforms and providing strategic feedback on automation infrastructure development. You will lead communications with key customers, cross-functional partners, and directly support capital projects, business initiatives, process improvements, and regulatory inspections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical System Ownership: Maintain wide-ranging automation platforms, control systems, and system applications (GMP & non-GMP automation assets)
  • BAS Design and Development: Lead the design, development, and implementation of Building Automation Systems using Siemens Desigo, ALC, and Aveeva PI technologies
  • Customer Support: Provide essential system support in a 24x7 environment, identifying and resolving hardware and software application issues
  • Technical Leadership: Influence cross-functional teams, focusing on longer-term objectives, key strategic initiatives, and next-gen automation platforms
  • Vendor Partnerships: Develop and lead vendor-partner relationships, support contracts, and vendor resources

Requirements:

  • Over 12 years of experience designing and supporting BAS specific automation systems in manufacturing or critical operations environments
  • Recent experience in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment
  • Strong hands-on technical experience in BAS, networks, data systems, and Windows programming
  • Familiarity with industrial networks and communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, Windows Networking, OPC, BACnet, MODBUS)
  • Certifications and education in engineering, preferably with system-specific certifications

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $134,800 - $250,400. Genentech offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and professional development opportunities. Additionally, a discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
