We are currently looking for a part-time Surgical Tech who can commit to working every Monday from 6 AM to 2 PM. The Surgical Tech is responsible for preparing and planning for surgical procedures by assessing the patient’s needs and participating in their intraoperative care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure patient comfort and uphold safety protocols.
- Anticipate specific needs and necessary instruments based on thorough patient assessments.
- Prepare the surgical suite by organizing and verifying the availability of supplies and equipment.
- Establish a sterile operating field with all required instruments for the procedure.
- Maintain cleanliness of the operating room between surgeries.
- Utilize surgeon preference cards to set up each case accurately and update them as necessary.
- Confirm the availability of adequate supplies and instruments for scheduled surgeries.
Preparation for Surgical Procedures:
- Communicate with the surgical team to clarify specific requirements prior to the procedure.
- Assist in creating a sterile environment through proper draping techniques.
- Support the surgeon during the operation by anticipating their needs and those of the patient.
- Monitor and report any breaches in sterile technique to the surgeon and circulating nurse.
- Ensure surgical asepsis is maintained throughout the procedure.
- Conduct accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments post-surgery.
- Assist in transferring the patient to a stretcher following the procedure.
- Keep the operative suite organized and clean.
- Apply good body mechanics and universal precautions in daily tasks, using personal protective equipment as required.
- Complete all necessary logs and checks before the start of each case.
- Contribute to the daily upkeep of the department.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Restock the operating room on a daily basis.
- Assist in replenishing sterile supply rooms and storage areas as needed.
- Prepare for upcoming surgical cases by gathering required equipment and supplies.
- Maintain sterilization of all instruments utilized during the day.
- Oversee the maintenance and cleaning of autoclaves, ensuring logs are accurately completed.
- Keep utility rooms organized and stocked.
- Proactively seek out tasks to complete and verify with the nurse manager.
- Conduct terminal cleaning of the operating room at the end of the day.
- Utilize effective interpersonal skills to foster good relationships with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
Qualifications:
Education: Candidates must be graduates of an accredited surgical technician program and hold certification.
Experience:
- A minimum of one year of experience as a surgical technician is required.
- Familiarity with instrument sterilization processes and terminal cleaning of the operating room is essential.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
