Immunohematology Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Immunohematology Laboratory Scientist to contribute to our Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) team at Bloodworks Northwest.
This role involves performing clinical laboratory testing under routine and emergency protocols in IRL, providing technical expertise in IRL testing, and developing and implementing new methods.
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Performing daily workups of complex antibody problems and other red cell reference testing.
- Filling orders for blood in a timely manner.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing antibody ID using tube, gel, and solid phase methods.
- Performing warm autoantibody evaluations using matched cells, adsorption, and elution techniques.
- Using enhancing reagents and enzymes in evaluation of complex antibody problems.
- Performing extended transfusion reaction evaluations.
- Performing neonatal evaluations and antibody titers.
- Fostering good customer service by acting as a technical resource and consultant to internal and external laboratory professionals and physicians.
- Maintaining and tracking inventory levels of antigen typed units and supplies for testing.
- Maintaining proficiency in thawing of rare units (ARDP).
- Typing, packing, and sending rare units provided to the national exchange of rare units.
- Participating in initiatives to meet requirements for the American Rare Donor Program in order for the laboratory to maintain AABB IRL accreditation.
- Preparing and QC reagents and serum for use during daily operations.
- Reviewing workup documentation, final reports, and coordinating billing for testing performed.
- Encouraging cooperation between all staff and maintaining a professional and productive working environment.
- Troubleshooting equipment and transportation problems.
- Maintaining complete and accurate documentation of all testing, research, validation, equipment Quality Control (QC), and maintenance.
- Working with laboratory staff to develop clear, concise, up-to-date Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Understanding and participating in Quality Assurance (QA) functions of the laboratory.
- Reporting incidents involving unusual circumstances or failure to follow written standard operating procedure.
This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
