Job Summary

The Department Chair, Industrial Technology is a key leadership position that oversees the Industrial Technology department at San Jacinto College. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the department's academic programs, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with college policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Decision-Making:
    • Develops and implements departmental goals that align with the college's strategic plan.
    • Implements and reinforces changes based on policy decisions.
    • Initiates and maintains communication with administrative staff, faculty, students, and external partners.
    • Conducts meetings with faculty to evaluate and approve departmental plans and delivery of instruction.
    • Provides research and support to obtain external grant funds or donations.
  • Department Operations – Non-Faculty Activities:
    • Prepares the annual department budget.
    • Reviews and approves purchases of goods and services.
    • Develops Unit Plans and Program Assessment Plans.
    • Develops and reviews class schedules.
  • Department Operations – Faculty Activities:
    • Recommends renewal of faculty contracts.
    • Reviews and approves personnel changes within the department.
    • Determines personnel needs in the department and makes requests in writing.
    • Performs tracking and analyzing of program data, including student performance and enrollment data.
  • Professional Development and Performance Management:
    • Evaluates individual teaching effectiveness annually using consistent evaluation procedures.
    • Recognizes faculty who demonstrate high levels of teaching effectiveness.
    • Supervises and evaluates new faculty and staff.
    • Provides and promotes professional development opportunities to department members.
  • Curriculum and Assessment:
    • Facilitates assessment of student learning outcomes.
    • Develops curriculum programs, projects, and initiatives in support of the college's mission and strategic plan.
    • Works with the Office of Institutional Research to gather data.
    • Participates in activities associated with SACS accreditation, program accreditation, and program review.
  • Additional Job Functions:
    • Performs administrative duties as needed to oversee departmental budgets.
    • Follows and reviews procurement activities.
    • Reviews compliance to Blackboard standards for faculty.
    • Collaborates with program directors and faculty to develop and implement innovative partnerships.
Requirements
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution (preferred).
  • Experience:
    • Five years of applicable industry experience in one or more of the following areas: air conditioning, construction management, diesel technology, electrical technology, plumbing, pipefitting, and/or welding.
    • Teaching or industry training experience (valued).
    • Five years teaching/training and three years progressive leadership (preferred).
