Position Overview:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through its Office of Space Commerce (OSC), is at the forefront of developing the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS). This initiative aligns with the directives set forth by the 2018 US National Space Council, emphasizing a comprehensive approach to space traffic management (STM) and coordination (STC) for non-military US space operators.
Role Responsibilities:
- Engage in the operations center, conducting continuous monitoring and analysis of space traffic data and computational workflows.
- Address operational challenges related to space traffic coordination and resolve technical issues to maintain a secure and stable space environment.
- Contribute to the creation and refinement of procedures, operational displays, and other essential tools to support operational needs and troubleshooting efforts.
- Collaborate with commercial operators and stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of safety services.
- Assist in developing training materials and conducting training sessions for government and commercial operational teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics/Astronomy, Computer Science, or a related discipline, with 1 to 6 years of relevant experience in flight dynamics or orbital mechanics.
- Associate's Degree in a related field, accompanied by 3 to 8 years of experience in flight dynamics or orbital mechanics.
- Possession of an active Secret Clearance is mandatory.
- Proficiency in software systems, development environments, or programming languages such as Python and Linux.
- Experience in satellite operations and orbital analysis is essential.
- Familiarity with conjunction analysis for large satellite constellations.
- Ability to interpret Space Situational Awareness (SSA) data and provide essential services within the operations center.
- Experience in analyzing orbital state vectors and propagated ephemerides with associated covariances.
