Truss Fabricator

Nelson-Young Lumber is seeking a skilled Truss Assembler to join our team at our Edgerton Truss plant. This is a first shift position, Monday through Friday from 6:00am - 2:30pm (6:00am - 3:30pm during our busy season).

• Assist in the construction and assembly of metal plated wood trusses using jig systems such as rolling gantry tables and hand press systems.
• Lift and handle dimensional lumber of varying sizes and lengths.
• Climb on to jig systems to arrange material properly.
• Retrieve metal connector plates per shop drawings and place in proper locations for building trusses.
• Operate a forklift to move lumber carts, trash, etc.
• Mark trusses with tag numbers.
• Use metal strap banders to tie truss batches together.
• Re-stock plates, lumber carts, pallets, etc.
• Perform general area clean-up duties.

• A qualified applicant will have basic carpentry knowledge.
• Ability to read and follow engineered drawings.
• Basic understanding of lumber sizes/grades/types.
• Ability to use trade tools (such as saws, hammers, squares, tape measures, etc.).
• Basic understanding and use of arithmetic along with ability to use a calculator.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Forklift experience is beneficial, but not required.

• Applicants must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
