Position: Wood Truss Fabrication Specialist

Company: Nelson Truss Inc.

Nelson Truss Inc. is actively looking for a skilled Wood Truss Fabrication Specialist to join our team at the Edgerton Truss facility. This role is a first shift position, operating Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (extended hours during peak periods).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the construction and assembly of metal-plated wooden trusses utilizing jig systems, including rolling gantry tables and hand press mechanisms.
  • Handle and lift dimensional lumber of various sizes and lengths.
  • Climb onto jig systems to organize materials accurately.
  • Retrieve metal connector plates according to shop drawings and position them correctly for truss assembly.
  • Operate forklifts to transport lumber carts and other materials.
  • Label trusses with identification numbers.
  • Utilize metal strap banders to secure batches of trusses together.
  • Restock plates, lumber carts, and pallets as needed.
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance of the work area.

Qualifications:

  • Basic carpentry knowledge is essential.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings.
  • Understanding of lumber sizes, grades, and types.
  • Proficiency in using trade tools such as saws, hammers, squares, and tape measures.
  • Basic arithmetic skills and familiarity with calculators.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Forklift experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
