General Overview:
This position involves performing skilled trade work related to the upkeep and repair of the county's roadways and adjacent areas. Responsibilities include snow removal, street sanding, and the operation of both light and heavy machinery, alongside other related tasks as assigned.

Work Environment:
The role is carried out under the limited oversight of the Maintenance Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy machinery for road maintenance tasks.
- Grade roads and transport gravel.
- Manage equipment for paving and crack sealing.
- Clear snow and apply sand on streets; remove snow from roadways.
- Mow and maintain roadside ditches.
- Operate road graders, skid steers, and backhoes.
- Assist in disaster response and tree removal operations.

Maintenance Worker II: No CDL required. Swift County supports obtaining a CDL through an agreement with the Highway union.
Maintenance Worker III: A current CDL is mandatory for this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of safe equipment operation and preventive maintenance.
- Proficiency in operating both light and heavy machinery.
- Skilled in using specialized tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow oral instructions accurately.
- Capability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often in challenging weather conditions.
- Physical ability to lift heavy items.
- Competence in reading and writing.
- Ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
