Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a full-time Agricultural Technician to join our USDA registered sheep farm and laboratory. This role is vital to maintaining the high standards of our operations in animal husbandry and farm management.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct daily feeding and bedding for all livestock. Participate in the removal of waste from barns, pens, and shelters. Monitor and manage supplies of grain, hay, and minerals. Assist in the herding and transfer of animals and feed across different farm locations. Collaborate with the Animal Husbandry team to ensure the care and welfare of the animals. Maintain all land and buildings in compliance with USDA and VAAFM standards. Engage in field maintenance tasks such as brush hogging, manure spreading, and fence line trimming. Support the Facilities Maintenance team with snow removal and access management for farm vehicles. Perform additional duties related to the upkeep of farm buildings and equipment.

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. Valid driving license is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in agricultural settings, particularly with livestock and farm machinery.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong communication and organizational skills, both written and verbal, within a team context. Ability to manage multiple tasks, solve problems, and prioritize effectively with attention to detail.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

Dependable and reliable, comfortable working in varying weather conditions. Flexibility is essential due to the unpredictable nature of working with animals. Willingness to work weekends as part of the animal care rotation. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and navigating uneven, wet, or slippery surfaces. Engage in various physical activities including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, and turning.
