Job Summary:

The Senior Substation Engineer will lead a project team in the development and implementation of high voltage electrical substation projects.

The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of high voltage electrical substation components and their functions, as well as extensive knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, three-phase power systems, and per-unit mathematics.

The Senior Substation Engineer will be responsible for driving project schedules and budgets, supervising a project team, and communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that projects are managed to meet project quality, schedule, and profitability objectives
  • Supervise and coordinate all project activities to ensure on-time completion
  • Assign tasks to project design team based on project needs
  • Work with project team to create or modify all design documents
  • Develop one-line diagrams, electrical plans, and specifications for a project
  • Apply engineering application software to complete tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short circuit studies
  • Perform engineering and design functions as necessary to meet project schedules
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with customer representatives, project team, and management
  • Prepare, coordinate, and track project schedules and budgets, and ensure projects remain within allotted budgets and schedules
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum of ten years of direct experience and proven knowledge in high voltage (138kV and above) electrical substation engineering and design field
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of high voltage electrical substation components and their functions at 138kV and above
  • Extensive knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, three-phase power systems, and per-unit mathematics
  • Knowledge of common engineering application software
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI
  • Strong knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary to complete a project
  • Supervising a project team in a technical work environment
  • Knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail software
  • Working in a team environment
  • Communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, and clients
Physical Requirements:

This position requires minimal physical effort.

The employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year-round weather conditions and noise.

The employee must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%).

Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.

May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
