Job Title: Maintenance Specialist III

Join the City of Rowlett's Public Works team as a Maintenance Specialist III. This role involves performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, including operating equipment for construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, wastewater, and drainage systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and implementing construction, maintenance, and operation activities to provide quality water, wastewater, street, and drainage services for the City.
  • Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying, and backfilling.
  • Service water supply, sewer lift stations, and other pumps.
  • Ensure safe operating conditions at work sites, including traffic hazards, equipment operation, required barricades, confined space safety, and trench safety.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Clean equipment, ensure proper maintenance of equipment and tools after use, and maintain activity, water supply, consumption, wastewater pumpage, etc.
  • Respond to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss, or no water; sewer leaks, sewer backups, odors; evaluate situations; explain findings to supervisor; contact residents and business owners in areas where services will be disconnected and explain when services will be shut off and how soon they will be turned back on.
  • Assist in training Maintenance Specialist I's and II's to increase their skills in the maintenance, construction, and repair of water, wastewater, and storm drainage systems.
  • Assist in locating gas, telephone, power, cable television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
  • Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from High School or GED and three (3) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or water distribution and sewer collection systems required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required with Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of being hired.
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driver standards as established by the City of Rowlett.
  • Must reside within a 1-hour response time from the Public Works Building; employee will have (6) months from employment date in which to relocate.
  • May be required to be on-call and work nights, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must have a minimum of a Class C Water Distribution License and Wastewater Collection System Class 2 License or be able to obtain within 12 months of being hired.
