Job Summary

Cornell Cooperative Extension is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Animal Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our farm operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our livestock, as well as assisting with educational programs and providing exceptional customer service to our visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Feed and care for farm livestock, including daily feeding and cleaning of living areas
  • Assist with animal sciences educational programs for youth and adults, as requested
  • Provide exceptional customer service to visiting public, including answering questions and addressing concerns
  • Assist with farm safety plan implementation and maintenance
  • Perform physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, and pushing heavy objects, as well as working in various weather conditions
  • Operate heavy equipment, including tractors and skid-steer/bobcat
  • Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evening hours, as needed
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, including currently enrolled in HS with relevant experience
  • Ability to build working relationships to solve problems and achieve common goals
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position, including lifting, carrying, and pushing heavy objects
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including snow, sleet, ice, rain, and heat
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, including tractors and skid-steer/bobcat
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience working on a farm, including the operation of heavy equipment
