The successful candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team focused on physics-driven modeling of various aspects of hypersonic flight, including thermal protection system (TPS) aerothermal responses, boundary layer dynamics, material degradation, hypersonic external flow simulations, flight trajectory analysis, Lagrangian particle tracking, and signature modeling.
The role involves supporting the creation and utilization of diverse software tools, encompassing CFD applications, reduced-order modeling, and semi-empirical/analytical models of varying fidelity. The candidate will play a crucial role in guiding team members, updating stakeholders on project progress, and formulating proposals for future initiatives. This position offers a stimulating work environment with ample opportunities for professional growth as the hypersonic research and development portfolio expands.
Qualifications:
- Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- A Master's or PhD in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or a related STEM field) with a minimum of five years of relevant experience is required.
- Proficiency in compiled programming languages such as Fortran and/or C/C++, along with experience in code development and compilation on Linux systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Preferred Skills:
- An active secret-level security clearance is advantageous.
- Experience in developing code for engineering modeling and simulation applications.
- Familiarity with critical elements of hypersonic system modeling, including boundary layer and heat transfer analysis, ablation processes, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, chemistry modeling, and turbulence.
- Preferred candidates will have hands-on experience with modeling and simulation tools tailored for hypersonic applications.
