Job Title: Safe Home Advocate

Job Summary:

The Safe Center LI is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Safe Home Advocate to join our team. As a Safe Home Advocate, you will provide critical support services to survivors of domestic violence and their families, ensuring their safety and well-being in a confidential and non-judgmental environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advocacy and accompaniment services for adult and child clients, including support with Department of Social Services, schools, housing, and other external agencies.
  • Respond to calls on the agency hotline, providing information, referrals, and crisis intervention.
  • Conduct follow-ups with potential clients who have reported instances of interpersonal violence.
  • Input data on agency responses to reports of interpersonal violence.
  • Transport clients to necessary appointments using agency vehicles.
  • Conduct shelter intakes and orientation for new clients.
  • Clean and prepare rooms for departing clients, process their belongings for health and safety.
  • Assist clients in learning public transportation and community resources.
  • Develop safety plans for client travel, technology use, and other related matters.
  • Monitor daily activities of clients, respond to phone and door calls.
  • Assist with child monitoring when necessary.
  • Use shelter fire and security systems, conduct monthly fire drills.
  • Maintain logs detailing distribution of funds, metro cards, etc.
  • Enter client data and logs, detailing client engagement.
  • Order and shop for house items, manage groceries, household, office, and emergency preparedness supplies.
  • Distribute personal care, household, and baby-related items to clients.
  • Organize special events and celebrations.
  • Conduct weekly house meetings and creative workshops.
Requirements:
  • Associates Degree and/or one-year relevant work experience, including paid or volunteer work with victims of domestic violence and/or human services.
  • Residential and/or shelter experience preferred.
  • Work holidays as assigned, provide coverage for support staff as needed.
  • Work out of other locations in cases of emergency and relocation of shelter clients.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to utilize an agency vehicle for client transportation.
  • Ability to use email, computer, fax machine.
  • Lifting and moving of household and client items.
Work Schedule:

Tuesday – Saturday, 4pm-12am.

Salary:

$38,000 yearly salary, additional $5,000 if bilingual, additional $1,000 if schedule includes a weekend shift.
