Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Jr. Estimator with transmission line or substation utility experience to join our growing team. As a Jr. Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of high-voltage transmission, distribution, and substation line construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades.
  • Review construction design drawings and understand the scope of work to bid.
  • Manage the bidding process from preparing the bid to closing the bid.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure comprehensive coverage of all scopes of work.
  • Analyze subcontractor proposals for completeness, price, and scope.
  • Prepare and present cost/budget information to the client or project team.
  • Utilize value engineering strategies to identify cost-saving and cost-reducing opportunities.
  • Conduct risk assessment to identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with project managers and construction managers to develop a project schedule.
  • Participate in contract negotiations to ensure favorable terms.
  • Continually update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in substation estimating or electrical utilities estimating strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction or Electrical Management, Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a proven track record for a dedicated work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proven experience in high-voltage transmission line and substation erection construction management, project management, and contract management.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate budgets, cost estimates, and project bids.
  • Proficient in value engineering and cost analysis.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and legal requirements.
  • Excellent risk assessment skills with the ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Proven experience in scheduling, subcontracting, and managing suppliers.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable contract terms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain professional relationships with vendors, customers, engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors for any changes in work, schedule, and/or estimates.
  • Proficient in using estimating software and other industry-related technology.
