Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Analyze and interpret utility customer drawing packages and specifications.
- Design and evaluate tubular steel utility structures, focusing on transmission, distribution, and substation structures, ensuring compliance with national codes and industry standards.
- Responsibilities include providing preliminary design estimates and verifying final designs for production.
- Utilize advanced 3D modeling software for pole design and proprietary calculation tools for component designs.
- If licensed, oversee projects and customer territories upon achieving competency.
- Offer technical assistance and collaborate with sales, detailing, project management, and production teams.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate projects with both internal and external stakeholders, including other design professionals.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to various locations for project-related activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
- Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license within four years of employment.
- Judgment/Decision Making - Evaluating potential actions based on their relative costs and benefits to select the most suitable option.
- Initiative - Proactively identifying work that needs to be accomplished and willingly taking on responsibilities and challenges.
- Dependability - Demonstrating reliability and commitment to fulfilling obligations.
- Communication - Clearly articulating ideas or tasks to individuals or groups while actively listening and showing genuine interest in others.
- Teamwork - Collaborating effectively with others to achieve shared goals.
- Degree with a specific emphasis on Structural Engineering.
- Master's degree in engineering or business.
- Professional Engineer licensure in any state.
- Structural Engineer licensure in any state or Model Law Structural Engineer designation.
- Experience in the transmission and distribution systems industry, particularly in utility structures design.
- Background in steel products design, preferably within Nucor.
- Familiarity with PLS-Pole software.
- Experience in a customer-facing role.
