Work Environment

This role offers a flexible workplace arrangement where you'll work from home most days, with a requirement to engage onsite at our Dublin, Ohio office a certain number of days per month. On-site workdays will be managed at the team level to maintain an environment focused on work-life balance, innovation velocity, and exceptional customer experiences.

You'll work approximately 20% of your time (4 days per month) in the office, with the option to work remotely or come into the office as much as you like. All employees are welcome to collaborate in person or virtually.

Job Responsibilities

You'll join a cross-functional product team to build & launch impactful products that remove friction from commercial insurance. Your users will be commercial insurance agents and carriers who rely on your work daily to efficiently provide commercial insurance for small business owners.

Main Tasks

  • Develop and maintain powerful APIs used by agents to quote and bind policies for small businesses.
  • Write clean, well-tested code and automated unit tests using Ruby / Ruby on Rails.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies like iteration planning, retrospective, and daily stand-ups.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, site-reliability engineers, and customers to build impactful features.
  • Be a delivery-focused team member who builds resilient, high-quality features.
  • Integrate with third-party APIs to generate real-time quotes.
  • Contribute to the full lifecycle of software development from ideation to delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks like Angular and React.
  • Previous work in high-growth tech companies and/or startups.
  • Understanding of scrum, unit testing, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps.
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs, especially in Ruby on Rails.
  • Desirable: previous experience in insurance and/or policy rating.
  • Bonus points for full-stack expertise in modern web applications.

Salary Information

The estimated salary range for this role is $83,000 to $130,400 based on national averages. The starting salary range for new hires at Bold Penguin is $83,000 to $122,900.
