Job Title: Paraprofessional Specialist

Join Gilbert Unified School District as a Paraprofessional Specialist and contribute to the education and development of our students. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our students with special needs.

Job Summary:

The Paraprofessional Specialist will assist in the supervision and instruction of severely/moderately disabled special needs students under the supervision of a certificated teacher. This role involves observing and documenting student progress, implementing plans for instruction, and assisting students with special health care needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the teacher to ensure all special education students can participate.
  • Assist special education students requiring daily care, such as toileting, feeding, dressing, suctioning, tube feeding, lifting, positioning, etc.
  • Confer with teachers and/or therapists to evaluate special education student progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Implement academic instruction assigned by a teacher or therapist for individuals or small groups to meet learning goals.
  • Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other handicapping conditions.
  • Instruct special education students in various skills, such as counting, colors, behavioral skills, daily living skills, verbal skills, etc.
  • Maintain instructional materials and student files/records to ensure availability and accuracy.
  • Monitor special education students during activities, such as lunch, playground, classroom, field trips, etc.
  • Participate in the recording, reporting, and gathering of data for the Direct Service Claiming (DSC) program.
  • Perform record-keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher in providing necessary records and materials.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as injured students, fights, etc.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Job-related experience is desired.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Working Environment:

The Paraprofessional Specialist will work in a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere. The job requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.
