Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Social Services Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) and experience in providing direct services to students with IEPs and without IEPs. The successful candidate will be able to provide effective Social Emotional Learning Activities to classrooms, consult with staff and parents to facilitate highly effective interventions with students, and participate in the Referral, Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET), and IEPT processes for all Emotional Impairment and Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluations. The Social Services Specialist will also be responsible for conducting building social-emotional universal screeners, maintaining well-defined, articulate, and timely records, and assisting in facilitating Positive Behavior Support, Functional Behavior Analysis, Manifestation Review, and Behavior Intervention Planning.

Responsibilities:
Provide effective direct services through individual and/or group counseling to assigned caseloads of students with IEPs and without IEPs.
Provide effective Social Emotional Learning Activities to classrooms.
Consult with staff and parents to facilitate highly effective interventions with students.
Participate appropriately in the Referral, Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET), and IEPT processes for all Emotional Impairment and Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluations.
Conduct building social-emotional universal screeners.
Maintain well-defined, articulate, and timely records and submit them within established timelines.
Assist in facilitating Positive Behavior Support, Functional Behavior Analysis, Manifestation Review, and Behavior Intervention Planning.
Facilitate staff communication and staff development regarding the social/emotional domain.
Increase opportunities for positive social interaction between students with special needs and their non-disabled peers.
Relate effectively with parents and facilitate parent training.
Facilitate referrals to other agencies as appropriate.
Model appropriate behavior intervention techniques with staff and parents.
Facilitate effective, non-violent crisis intervention with students as needed according to policies, procedures, laws, and standards.
Complete effective formal and informal student assessments and produce accurate, articulate, and timely written reports.
Communicate effectively in a liaison role with parents, staff, administration, school districts, and agencies regarding assigned caseload and referrals.
Other duties assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Requirements:
Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW)
Full approval from the Michigan Department of Education as a School Social Worker
Previous Section 504 experience preferred
Previous school-based service delivery preferred
Training, expertise, and experience with a variety of disabilities, including EI, LD, CI, OHI, and ASD, including specific knowledge and experience in the evaluation of emotional impairment and Autism Spectrum Disorder
Strong clinical, diagnostic, consultative, and communication skills
Demonstrated familiarity with special education law, theory, service delivery, and procedures
Certification in or willingness to be trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, students, and parents
Demonstrated familiarity with community agencies, resources, and transition planning
Proficiency in Google Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet search platforms
Must be reliable and punctual with an excellent work-related attendance record
Ability to withstand the strain of the position
