Position Summary: This role primarily focuses on the upkeep and maintenance of roadway infrastructure and surrounding properties. The candidate will be expected to exercise independent judgment while promoting safe work practices. Possession of MOT Certification and/or a CDL license is advantageous. The work involves state roads and requires proficient computer skills and writing capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and document maintenance requirements.
- Review completed tasks for quality assurance.
- Engage in all necessary training sessions.
- Conduct maintenance tasks on roadway assets, including preventive measures and repairs.
- Address public complaints regarding road conditions and evaluate highways for necessary repairs.
- Assist in maintaining roadway right-of-way during emergencies such as natural disasters and severe weather.
- Perform routine traffic control duties, including flagging and establishing work zones.
- Operate various medium-duty machinery, including tractors and hydraulic tools.
- Engage in physically demanding labor, including roadway repairs, bridge work, fence maintenance, ditch cleaning, sign installation, landscaping, and litter control.
- Adhere to all relevant State and Local laws, Federal OSHA standards, and DOT regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure safety and functionality before and after use.
- Report any safety concerns identified during inspections to the supervisor immediately.
- Perform maintenance on equipment as needed.
- Ensure secure transport of loads, tools, and materials.
- Support additional right-of-way maintenance tasks as directed.
- Comply with all traffic and safety regulations.
- Ability to complete the FDOT MOT certification course.
- Availability for on-call duties 1 to 2 weeks per month for emergency response.
- Maintain a positive public image for the company through professional conduct.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment safely and courteously.
- Carry out other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as required.
- Availability to respond to incidents 24/7.
- Flexibility to work overtime when necessary.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record subject to annual review.
- Subject to random drug screening at any time.
Education and Training:
- Certification in DOT Work Zone Safety.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Completion of company safety training.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to transport equipment to various locations and utilize it effectively.
Work Environment: This position entails working in diverse environments, including outdoor settings in all weather conditions and near active roadways.
