Position Summary

The successful candidate will have prior experience in voice, data, and fiber installations. Fiber Technicians are tasked with the meticulous preparation and installation of fiber optic cables within telecommunication frameworks. This role necessitates a solid understanding of the fiber and telecommunications sectors, including familiarity with fiber optic cables, proficiency in using OTDR and other specialized equipment, and the capability to interpret and analyze technical data and schematics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks both indoors and outdoors as required.
  • Interpret and construct designs from schematics or maps.
  • Manage the loading and unloading of tools and materials, assisting with vehicle and equipment upkeep.
  • Support all manual labor components of projects as directed by supervisors.
  • Execute the running and termination of fiber optic cables.
  • Assemble equipment according to specified designs.
  • Maintain accurate inventory on vehicles based on assignments.
  • Prepare fiber using hand tools or splicing equipment.
  • Install and repair fiber lines in various environments using appropriate tools.
  • Communicate detailed accounts of field activities to project managers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Document daily production and accurately update job site blueprints.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations relevant to the industry.
  • Understand and adhere to company policies.
  • Participate in safety meetings and follow prescribed safety protocols.
  • Contribute to efforts aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of safety regulations including OSHA, NESC, and NEC.
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate effective interaction with supervisors and team members.
  • Proficiency in using job-specific tools such as OTDR and optical power meters.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with traditional fiber architectures.
  • Competence in using hand tools like drills, hammers, and screwdrivers.
  • Physical capability to traverse various terrains and weather conditions while carrying tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and system layouts.
  • Experience operating relevant computer or testing equipment.
  • Capacity to work independently.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic systems and RF plants is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel extensively during the work week.

Education Requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

Language Proficiency: Must read, speak, and understand English.

Licenses or Certifications: Valid Driver's License required.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, lift/move up to 100 lbs, and perform tasks requiring hand dexterity, vision, and hearing.
