Position Summary

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in voice, data, and fiber installations. As a Fiber Technician, you will be responsible for the meticulous preparation and installation of fiber optic cables within various telecommunications frameworks. A solid understanding of the fiber and telecommunications landscape is essential, including familiarity with fiber optic cables, proficiency in using OTDR and other specialized equipment, and the ability to interpret technical data and schematics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform work both indoors and outdoors as required.
  • Interpret and construct designs from schematics or maps.
  • Handle tools, materials, and equipment, assisting with maintenance as needed.
  • Support all manual labor tasks as directed by supervisors.
  • Execute the installation and termination of fiber optic cables.
  • Assemble equipment according to specified designs.
  • Maintain accurate inventory on vehicles based on assignments.
  • Prepare fiber using appropriate hand and splicing tools.
  • Install and repair fiber lines in various environments using hand tools.
  • Provide detailed verbal and written reports to project managers regarding field activities.
  • Document daily production and update job site blueprints accurately.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations relevant to the industry.
  • Understand and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings and follow established safety protocols.
  • Contribute to enhancing the customer experience through consistent support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA, NESC, and NEC.
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate effective interaction with supervisors and team members.
  • Proficient in using job-specific tools such as OTDR and optical power meters.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with traditional fiber architectures.
  • Skilled in using hand tools such as drills, hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers.
  • Capable of traversing various terrains and weather conditions while carrying equipment.
  • Adept at reading system layouts from blueprints.
  • Experience operating relevant computer or testing equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic systems and RF plants is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel extensively during the work week.

Education Requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

Language Proficiency: Must be able to read, speak, and understand English.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver's License required.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, lift/move up to 100 lbs, and perform tasks requiring dexterity, vision, and hearing.
