We are seeking a skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our team at Think Aksarben.

The estimated salary for this role is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, based on industry standards and the location.

Responsibilities
  • Perform coding activities to ensure accurate completion of patient records, including review of charge submissions, addition of modifiers, scrubbing of claims, preparation for insurance submission, and closing of clean batches.
  • Analyze medical records for complete documentation and communicate directly with providers for clarification on incomplete or inaccurate documentation.
  • Remain current on all coding-related regulations, standards, guidelines, industry trends, and Medicare announcements.
  • Educate physicians, clinicians, and healthcare staff on changes to coding policies, standards, regulations, and advocate for proper documentation practices.
  • Investigate and problem-solve contractual obligation denials received from billing staff on charges reviewed and coded.
  • Inform billing staff of the proper correction needed to reprocess denied claims.
  • Improve patient experience by being inquisitive, responsive, innovative, and flexible.
Requirements
  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Medical Coding or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Procedure Coder (CPC) through National American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
  • Local involvement in AAPC and 2+ years of coding experience in a primary care setting preferred.
  • Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) and prior medical coding audit experience preferred.
