Clinical Laboratory Specialist

West Tennessee Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist II to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing and reporting laboratory tests in a prompt, efficient, and accurate manner.
Job Summary:We are looking for a detail-oriented and organized individual with a strong background in clinical laboratory science. The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from a NACCLS-approved program and be certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform and determine the accuracy of routine and special laboratory tests in designated sections of the laboratory.
- Evaluate and report test results as instructed by test procedure or section procedure.
- Prepare reagents, quality control, and calibrators according to established criteria and evaluate results of quality control and implement corrective action when indicated.
- Operate, calibrate, conduct performance checks, and maintain any clinical laboratory instrument or equipment.
- Document and maintain records of preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and take appropriate steps to resolve malfunctions on assigned instruments.
- Assist in evaluating new instruments and establishing maintenance protocols with approval of supervisor and pathologist.
- Assist in reviewing and writing policies, procedures, and preventive maintenance manuals assigned by supervisor and keeping them current.
- Inventories, recommends, and submits orders, receives and stores supplies for assigned area.
- Instructs students and assists in orientation and evaluation of new personnel as assigned.
- Obtains specimens from patients for laboratory procedures.
- Contributes to the positive work climate and overall team effort of the department.
- Pour-over and transport hazardous flammable waste (alcohols, xylene, and stains) to the hazardous waste drum collection area on the lab dock as needed (RCRA Hazardous Waste Management for Generators Certification required).
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from a NACCLS-approved program.
- Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Tennessee State License within six months of hire date.
- Maintain State of TN licensure by completing continuing education as required by State of not less than 12 CE hours annually.
