Position Overview
The Learning Support Specialist 2 (LSS2) serves as a professional tutor, providing in-person assistance to students. The LSS2 is responsible for working with individuals or small groups to enhance their understanding of the designated subject matter. This role requires the ability to manage multiple students in a collaborative tutoring environment while effectively communicating with the department regarding student progress and needs.

Tutoring Responsibilities

  • Enhances students' comprehension and mastery of course material beyond classroom instruction, focusing on introductory courses within the specialist's area of expertise.
  • Guides students in developing and applying effective learning and study strategies, ensuring meetings occur at scheduled times.

Administrative Duties

  • Keeps thorough records of all tutoring sessions and generates departmental reports related to tutoring activities.
  • Communicates relevant information to course instructors to support student learning and demonstrates proficient use of the College's tutoring software.

Commitment to Continuous Learning

  • Maintains an extensive understanding of course content and diverse instructional methodologies to cater to various student learning preferences. Participates in tutor training sessions.
  • Provides assistance to Learning Support Specialists, Peer Tutors, and Supplemental Instructional Leaders, including technical support for tutoring software and report generation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.

  • Experience in teaching at Columbus State Community College.
