This role is located off-campus with a local employer and is not affiliated with the university.

The Relief Instructor plays a crucial role in the educational program by assisting in delivering high-quality instruction tailored to meet the needs of each student. This individual will foster an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of learners.

Relief Instructors supervise students in various educational settings and activities, monitoring and evaluating student performance as directed by the classroom teacher.

Relief Instructors adhere to established school policies and procedures and are expected to embody the

School's Mission and Philosophy in daily interactions with all members of the school community.

  • Implement lesson plans provided by the Teacher.
  • Maintain order and discipline in the classroom by overseeing students in various educational
settings and activities.

  • Engage in Staff Development when notified by a Division Head.
  • Ensure that copies of Teacher/Class schedules and emergency procedures are available for reference.
  • At the end of the day, complete a report form [provided by administrative staff] and leave it in the
classroom for the returning Teacher.

This should include attendance, behavioral issues, any incomplete lesson plan components, and any other special circumstances encountered.



  • Perform additional related duties as assigned based on school needs.
  • Use of personal electronic devices is prohibited while supervising students, unless in an emergency.
  • Leave the classroom organized and tidy.
  • Refrain from sharing any images or messages from your time in the classroom on personal social media.
A Relief Instructor receives a call early in the morning if there are openings to fill for that day. You can accept or decline the opening based on your availability. If you accept, you would typically be expected to arrive at the school by a specified time and may leave once students are dismissed. There may be instances when a job is for a partial day, which will be communicated at the time of scheduling. If you have preferences regarding grade/subject matter, you should communicate that at the time of hire. While there is no minimum or maximum number of jobs you must accept to remain active, it is encouraged to accept a certain number of jobs within a school year to maintain active status.

  • Ability to pass a nationwide criminal background check prior to working with students.
  • Ability to accurately record hours worked and report any discrepancies to payroll immediately.
  • Ability to adhere to professional dress standards.
  • Ability to assist students in developing problem-solving, appropriate risk-taking, social, and self-regulation skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize job expectations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Ability to follow Teacher/Class schedules and emergency procedures.
