Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment conducive to optimal patient care. Utilize aseptic techniques in preparing materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Assist in various surgical procedures while ensuring a comprehensive understanding of multiple procedures.
  • Ensure the operating room's disinfection, safety, and efficiency, including setting up and returning equipment post-procedure.
  • Act as a Second Assistant when necessary.
  • Communicate any equipment or supply issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Transport patients and/or equipment as needed.
  • Maintain specialty carts or items, ensuring their completeness and readiness.
  • Perform patient positioning and transport duties, adhering to proper lifting techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within six months unless otherwise determined by the department leader.

Education:

  • Completion of an accredited or approved Surgical Technology program.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of aseptic surgical techniques and equipment used in surgical settings.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Commitment to maintaining annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist and 20 lbs. overhead.
  • Capable of carrying up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Exposure to various hazards, including mechanical, electrical, chemical, and biological.
  • Must possess functional sight and hearing and be able to wear necessary protective equipment.
