Job Overview

X-Ray Reader - Aerospace Components Manufacturing - Swing Shift

Position Summary:

The X-Ray Reader will leverage their expertise in non-destructive testing to ensure adherence to quality standards set by the organization and its clients. This role involves interpreting radiographic images and documenting findings in line with established protocols, developing shooting techniques as necessary, calibrating equipment, and providing training to X-Ray Shooters/Readers as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct non-destructive testing through radiographic imaging to assess casting quality and identify necessary corrections for part discrepancies.
  • Follow guidelines for radiographic inspections of castings using technique cards.
  • Analyze each image to guarantee consistent accuracy and quality.
  • Perform visual inspections of castings to detect areas needing enhancements in casting or welding.
  • Identify common imperfections and collaborate with engineering or other relevant departments.
  • Authorize radiographic reports confirming that thorough inspections have been conducted and findings are accurately recorded.
  • Develop shooting techniques as required.
  • Calibrate and inspect radiographic equipment.
  • Provide training to others as necessary.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient understanding of all relevant documentation and part routing procedures.
  • Ability to maintain high-quality standards while processing parts at an efficient production rate.
  • Capability to work effectively with minimal supervision.


Education, Certifications, and Experience:
  • Completion of 40 hours of classroom training in Radiographic Inspection I and II is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a radiographer is required.
  • Certification at RT, CR, or DDA Level II from a previous employer, or eligibility for Digital Level II in Radiographic Testing (40 hours classroom training plus 600 hours on-the-job training), is necessary.
  • Applicants should bring all relevant radiographic training documentation and certification records to the interview if selected.
  • A High School diploma or GED is required.


Mental & Physical Requirements:
  • Must possess vision acuity that meets test chart standards and color perception to distinguish between various colors.
  • Ability to work outside the department as needed.


Work Environment:
  • Work may occur in areas with elevated noise levels, odors, and fumes.


Work Schedule:
  • Swing Shift - Monday-Thursday ($1.00/hr. shift differential)
