Position Overview
Vosper Thornycroft Group is in search of an Aerospace Maintenance Technician I to join our team. This role involves diagnosing issues in various aircraft systems and conducting routine maintenance on F-18 aircraft.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily and pre-flight inspections to confirm that aircraft adhere to safety regulations.
- Service, repair, and overhaul aircraft and engines to maintain operational readiness.
- Repair, replace, and reconstruct aircraft structures, including wings and fuselage, as well as functional components like rigging and hydraulic systems, utilizing hand tools and machinery.
- Interpret manufacturer manuals and service bulletins to assess the feasibility of repairs or replacements for malfunctioning components.
- Inspect turbine blades for any signs of damage.
- Utilize testing equipment to evaluate engine performance and identify malfunctions.
- Replace or repair worn components, employing hand tools and gauges.
- Disassemble and inspect parts for wear or defects.
- Reassemble and install engines back into aircraft after repairs.
- Adjust and repair electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting on Avionics and Electrical mission systems using specialized test equipment.
- Carry out various maintenance tasks, including flushing crankcases and greasing moving parts.
- May perform engine and airframe servicing at line stations to ensure aircraft remain in safe operating condition.
- May specialize in the repair and modification of structural and functional spare parts.
- Handle the checkout, removal, and replacement of Cartridge Activated Devices (CAD).
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or equivalent, with specialized training relevant to the field.
Experience: A minimum of three years of recent experience working on F-18 fixed-wing aircraft is required. An A&P License or FAA Certification is preferred but not mandatory. Experience in military aviation is advantageous, and all experience must be within the last five years.
All candidates must be U.S. citizens. Individuals with other than Honorable Discharges from Military Service do not meet the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge Requirements: A solid understanding of military publications, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics is essential. Familiarity with supply procedures and aircraft accounting systems is also required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Work may be conducted in maintenance hangars or outdoor settings.
- Ability to respond to various operational conditions, including extreme weather.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical hazards may occur.
- Physical stamina is necessary, including the ability to walk, stand, climb, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess good vision and hearing capabilities.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
