Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the repair and maintenance of heavy construction machinery, rail-bound equipment, and other company assets, including but not limited to dump trucks, cranes, and backhoes. This role involves performing tasks in accordance with manufacturer specifications, company standards, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and inspect machinery or heavy equipment to identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment post-repair or assembly to ensure proper functionality and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy machinery using hoists and hand tools.
  • Adjust and repair ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and steering systems.
  • Maintain and repair chassis, frames, and bodies.
  • Service and maintain diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Repair and maintain batteries, brakes, and valves.
  • Assist with inspections and safety evaluations.
  • Utilize hoisting and jacking equipment, power tools, measuring instruments, gauges, and meters.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Travel to various field locations to perform repairs or maintenance.
  • Prepare detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.

Travel Requirements: Approximately 30% travel required.

Qualifications
  • Ideally 3+ years of experience combined with vocational training in diesel equipment and mechanical repair of construction machinery.
  • A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required; passing a drug test is mandatory. CDL is preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend procedural instructions, manuals, and hydraulic and electrical diagrams.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to understand and efficiently execute instructions.
  • Capability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Ability to work in both shop and field environments.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions relevant to the work performed.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred (Outlook, Excel, Word).

Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
  • Regularly engage in physical activities requiring significant use of arms and legs, including standing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and handling materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Utilize hands and fingers to operate equipment and tools necessary for repairs.
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects, machinery, and tools weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in proximity to vehicles and machinery with moving parts.
  • Exposure to exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel is expected.
  • May encounter harsh weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to loud noise levels.
