We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Environmental Compliance Specialist with a focus on leaking underground storage tank (LUST) assessments and remediation efforts. The successful candidate will demonstrate a solid foundation in environmental evaluations, site analysis, remediation strategy development, and adherence to regulatory standards pertinent to LUST initiatives. This position involves practical fieldwork as well as expertise in data interpretation, report preparation, and effective client engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute thorough site evaluations and investigations concerning leaking underground storage tanks.
  • Oversee primary onsite operations for tank removals and closures.
  • Conduct soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring, and data analysis utilizing industry-standard methodologies and tools.
  • Formulate and implement remediation plans tailored to site-specific conditions, regulatory frameworks, and client needs.
  • Draft technical reports, feasibility assessments, and remedial action strategies in compliance with regulatory protocols.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies, stakeholders, and clients to ensure compliance and achievement of project objectives.
  • Effectively manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to meet project milestones.
  • Provide technical mentorship and support to junior team members during field operations and data analysis.
  • Stay informed about changing regulations, industry developments, and best practices related to LUST assessments and remediation.
Task Overview: Underground Storage Tank Removal

Key Duties:
  1. Preliminary Site Evaluation:
    • Conduct initial site inspections and evaluations to define the scope of work necessary for underground storage tank (UST) removal.
    • Review historical documentation and regulatory requirements associated with the USTs.
  2. Tank Purging and Decommissioning:
    • Coordinate and supervise the purging, cleaning, and decommissioning of underground storage tanks in accordance with regulatory standards.
    • Ensure appropriate disposal of tank contents and liaise with waste management firms as needed.
  3. Soil Sampling and Analysis:
    • Design and implement soil sampling strategies to evaluate potential contamination from leaked tank contents.
    • Utilize suitable sampling techniques and equipment to gather soil samples from designated areas surrounding the USTs.
  4. Groundwater Sampling and Monitoring:
    • Execute groundwater sampling initiatives to assess the extent of contamination and its potential effects on groundwater quality.
    • Analyze groundwater samples using established laboratory methods and interpret results to evaluate environmental risks.
  5. Remediation Oversight:
    • Develop and supervise remediation strategies if contamination levels exceed regulatory limits.
    • Coordinate with subcontractors and stakeholders to implement remedial actions and ensure adherence to environmental regulations.
  6. Closure Report Preparation:
    • Compile detailed closure reports summarizing the findings of soil and groundwater investigations, tank removal processes, and remediation efforts.
    • Submit closure reports to regulatory agencies for review and approval, ensuring all documentation complies with regulatory standards and timelines.
  7. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Remain updated on federal, state, and local environmental regulations concerning underground storage tanks.
    • Ensure all activities and reports conform to regulatory requirements and secure necessary permits as needed.
  8. Client Communication and Consultation:
    • Maintain ongoing communication with clients, providing updates on project progress, findings, and recommendations.
    • Offer expert consultation and guidance on environmental compliance matters related to UST removal and site remediation.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental consulting, with a specific focus on LUST assessments and remediation.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations governing underground storage tanks, hazardous materials, and environmental protection (e.g., EPA, RCRA, CERCLA).
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting fieldwork, including soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well installation, and remediation system management.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, GIS software, and environmental modeling tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports and engage professionally with clients, regulators, and team members.
  • Capability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional certifications such as Professional Geologist (PG), Professional Engineer (PE), or similar relevant credentials.
  • Experience with risk assessment methodologies and evaluations of human health and ecological risks.
  • Familiarity with vapor intrusion assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Prior experience in project management, including budgeting and proposal development.
