Key Responsibilities

This position is accountable for the operation and upkeep of RED's industrial water systems, boilers, compressed air systems, and steam distribution networks. Responsibilities include:

  • Initiating and halting equipment operations, adjusting online units both manually and through the distributed control system (DCS).
  • Managing the unloading of chemicals for water treatment and conducting necessary testing.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Conducting routine inspections and documenting operational data for boiler room, refrigeration, and water treatment systems.
  • Overseeing the water treatment plant, boilers, turbines, and distribution systems alongside shift operations teams.
  • Assisting with repairs and maintenance of equipment and distribution piping systems.
  • Performing sampling and testing of chemical treatment systems.
  • Supporting equipment shutdowns and startups, ensuring proper locking and tagging procedures are followed.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and operational readiness of equipment.
  • Contributing to the development and revision of standard operating procedures.
  • Executing maintenance tasks, including refrigerant handling and leak repairs.
  • Completing other assigned duties such as record keeping and inspections.
Work Schedule

This role operates on a rotating shift schedule, consisting of two days followed by two nights, with four days off. It is a non-exempt hourly position, with an estimated annual salary ranging from $72,000 to $84,000, plus an annual incentive bonus target of 7%.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a lower-level operator or mechanic role, with knowledge of refrigeration systems, cooling towers, and steam turbines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn various industrial software applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the capability to collaborate with all organizational levels.
  • A valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
Licensing and Certifications

RED-Rochester will assist selected candidates in obtaining necessary licenses and certifications, including:

  • City of Rochester S-3 Stationary Engineers License.
  • City of Rochester R-4 Refrigeration Operators License.
  • NYSDOH 2a Water Treatment Operator certification.
  • US-EPA Refrigerant Handling Universal License.
Work Environment

Employees may work under varying weather conditions and are required to travel between buildings within the plant environment. Safety gear is mandatory in designated areas.

Physical Requirements

While performing job duties, employees may need to bend, walk, or carry equipment, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. A valid driver's license is required for travel within the operational area.
