Your Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Grain Operations Manager to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our grain elevators.

Your primary focus will be on performing preventive and corrective maintenance to keep our grain elevators running efficiently. You will also be responsible for installing new equipment and altering existing installations as directed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily preventive and light corrective maintenance on grain elevator equipment, including proper lubrication selection and amounts.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose milling equipment problems and assist in the planning, performance, and assignment of proper repair.
  • Upkeep of pneumatic systems, including compressors, cylinders, and solenoid valve troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Machine work and welding on a regular basis.
  • Work with internal combustion engines.
  • Read schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair scales and load cells.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental laws and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Available to work extended weekday and weekend hours during grain harvest seasons.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Driving privileges and some overnight travel.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to walk an average of 2-4 miles per day, occasionally up to 5 or 6.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a limited basis.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in situations two feet above the floor in a leaned-over or squatted position.
  • Must be able to frequently climb over, under, and around feed mill areas.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on concrete and unpaved areas for longer periods of time.
  • Must be able to tolerate grain dust, chemical odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
  • Must be able to tolerate extreme ranges of seasonal temperatures (hot to cold).
