Position Overview

AECOM is seeking a skilled Environmental Engineer to join our Industrial Remediation Practices team, focusing on the design and management of remediation systems, as well as conducting soil and groundwater investigations.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in the design and oversight of remediation systems, including operations, maintenance, and monitoring. Proficiency in data management and technical report writing is essential. This role demands excellent technical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and in collaboration with engineers and scientists across various remediation initiatives. Strong verbal and written communication abilities are vital for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineering of environmental water collection, conveyance, and treatment systems.
  • Manage stormwater and sediment control engineering and permitting processes.
  • Provide engineering support for industrial and municipal remediation projects.
  • Oversee pre-design investigations, ensuring thorough coordination and execution.
  • Engage in remedial technology design, particularly in water and wastewater systems.
  • Conduct investigations related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including sampling and water quality evaluations.
  • Contribute to treatment and remedial design efforts, including feasibility studies and pilot projects.
  • Support remedial implementation through construction oversight and permitting.
  • Evaluate treatment performance and maintain operational standards.
  • Perform modeling and analysis of remediation effectiveness and subsurface conditions.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource and advisor within the team.
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, plans, and specifications, ensuring adherence to accepted practices.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Develop cost estimates and technical effort assessments for projects.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings.
  • Prepare technical specifications and contribute to project budgeting and scheduling.
  • Manage environmental fieldwork, including oversight of remediation system operations and subcontractors.
  • Support project managers in budgeting, scheduling, and scope development.
  • Travel to project sites as required, with a potential commitment of up to 30% travel.
  • Adhere to AECOM's Quality Management System standards for project deliverables.
  • Foster strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related field with 6+ years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Direct experience with PFAS-related projects.
  • Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and background check.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of this role.
  • FE or EIT certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting and remediation system design.
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training certification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety practices.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
