Job DescriptionTitle: Manager of Design Engineering

Reports to: Senior Director, Manufacturing Excellence

Overview: The Manager of Design Engineering will provide comprehensive project management by successfully developing and aiding in the engineering of products based on timeline. This role will serve as the owner of vendor communication throughout the engineering process, help troubleshoot engineering challenges, and attend DFM and CTM meetings to foresee possible issues and bottlenecks in production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Partner with Senior Director or Design Engineering on new product efforts, focusing on engineering, manufacturing, and design aesthetic needs. Serve as the primary contact with external vendors during engineering collaboration.
  • Work closely with NY-based design teams early in the development process to ensure engineering needs are met.
  • Collaborate with the BKK Engineering Team to promote inter-office cohesion.
  • Own Pre-DFM Meetings for both Men's and Women's businesses.
  • Own ECN projects, including communication with vendors, inspecting models and assembly methods, and coming up with solutions or alternatives to correct known issues.
  • Run bi-weekly ECN meetings to update the team on project status and ensure timely completion.
  • Execute and maintain all product engineering-specific documentation, including project kits, engineering reference documents, and supplemental documents.
  • Implement technologically driven solutions to attain fundamental product improvements by improving product manufacturability, reducing manufacturing cost, increasing manufacturing capacity, or improving product quality.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Production Teams to evaluate and determine best practices for producing David Yurman Jewelry.
  • Coordinate with the Costing Team to execute and advise on estimated pricing for new design concepts and projects in work.
  • Monitor engineering issues and problem-solve throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Support additional manufacturing and engineering-related initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Four-year BA or BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with a background in jewelry design preferred.
  • 2-3 years' Project Management experience with the Jewelry industry or manufacturing engineering experience required.
  • Excellent prioritization and time management skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience in new product development and/or manufacturing process improvement.
  • Ability to analyze complex engineering problems.
  • Knowledge of modern jewelry manufacturing techniques, precious metal metallurgy, and/or investment casting.
  • Proven ability to work within a minimal supervision, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication (English written and verbal) & interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop a plus.
  • Practical CAD knowledge, specifically Rhino software.
  • Working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) & Oracle software.
  • This position is based in NYC.
