Job Summary
The Occupational Therapist Specialist assesses patients' strengths and weaknesses, developing effective treatment plans to promote healing and functional independence. This role includes evaluating patients, implementing care plans, and maintaining patient confidentiality while fostering a positive and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Collects and records patient care data that follows format and guidelines of the patient care service, regulatory agencies, and third-party payers.
- Prepares for the evaluation in accordance with department policies/procedures and standards of practice, including obtaining patient history, exhibiting knowledge of patient diagnoses, and researching unfamiliar diagnoses.
- Selects and administers tests and measures, synthesizes evaluation results to formulate the diagnosis, goals, prognosis, and plan of care.
- Establishes treatment plan based on evaluation results, goals, and best practice, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and patient support systems.
- Identifies need for consultations and/or refers the patient to another healthcare professional or healthcare services.
- Initiates and completes discharge plan, provides education/training to patients and/or patient support systems, and ensures data, note writing using Prompt EMR for all treatments provided.
- Oversees support staff of COTA, OT aides, attends annual JAG PT Billing and Coding seminar, presents 1 facility-level in-service annually, and promotes JAG PT in the community through lectures/presentations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree required; Doctorate degree preferred.
- Licensed Occupational Therapist with experience/knowledge with an EMR software preferred.
- Excellent oral, written communication, strong clinical decision-making skills, 1+ year(s) professional OT experience, excellent work ethic, and dedication to patient success.
