The Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin is a statewide non-profit organization committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and related disabilities, along with their families, through awareness, education, information, programs, services, and the sharing of ideas and experiences.

DSAW offers a variety of programs and services across the lifespan, including Parent's First Call for new and expectant parents, children's services, adult services, vocational services, and aging services, as well as educational opportunities and events.

We are currently seeking a Community Day Program Specialist (CDP Specialist) in Southeast Wisconsin. This role is essential to our Community Day Program team, ensuring quality case coordination and direct programming services for individuals in the region.

The Community Day Program Specialist will oversee the implementation of our Community Day Program(s) at a designated site. Responsibilities include managing community partnerships, serving as the primary liaison for parents, scheduling, curriculum development, and ensuring safety and resource availability. This position requires active participation in program delivery and site management throughout the week.

As the main contact for families and funders, the Community Day Program Specialist will also collaborate with staff from various departments, conduct participant intakes, manage case documentation, and oversee billing and authorizations.

We are looking for a candidate with experience working with individuals with disabilities, possessing strong organizational and prioritization skills. While staff management experience is beneficial, it is not mandatory. The ideal candidate should be a quick learner with a passion for empowering individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives.

To excel in this role, the Community Day Program Specialist must be proficient with technology and adaptable to new systems, including case management software. A solid understanding of MS Office and G Suite is essential, and familiarity with participant management and scheduling systems is advantageous.

As DSAW continues to expand, we seek a candidate eager to contribute to the organization's growth. Our collaborative leadership model encourages all team members to share ideas for improvement. The ideal candidate should be proactive in developing new processes and procedures.

Depending on program needs, the CDP Specialist may be required to work evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Service Provision:
    • Model appropriate social skills consistently.
    • Support participants through real-life experiences.
    • Utilize curriculum to aid in skill acquisition.
    • Maintain positive professional relationships with participants and their support networks.
    • Advocate for participants and teach advocacy skills.
    • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
    • Monitor participant goals and document progress.
  • Site Coordination:
    • Lead and manage participant groups in community settings.
    • Oversee program schedules to ensure consistency across the region.
    • Secure staffing for programs and manage substitutes as needed.
    • Communicate program details to the marketing team for promotional materials.
    • Manage all communications with participants and their families.
    • Create and adjust individual participant goals.
    • Develop a tailored curriculum for the site.
    • Collaborate with site staff to ensure safety protocols are followed.
    • Work with the Community Day Programs Regional Manager on program offerings.
    • Manage participant schedules and waitlists.
    • Prepare and distribute welcome letters, newsletters, and calendars.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working with families and individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Supervisory experience preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver's license and insured vehicle required.
  • Successful completion of a caregiver background check per state requirements.

Compensation:
This hourly position offers a pay range of $19-$21 / hour.
