ROLE SUMMARY:
The Sergeant plays a crucial role in assisting the Chief of Campus Safety in managing the daily operations of safety and parking across all District locations. This position involves limited supervision within established policies and procedures, along with training and scheduling the work of other staff members. The Sergeant is instrumental in the management of safety and parking initiatives, requiring specialized knowledge of community college safety protocols.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Oversee and coordinate daily safety and parking operations at all District locations.Serve as a resource for staff, students, and the public regarding safety and parking regulations.Conduct regular patrols of campus grounds to ensure safety and security.Respond to emergencies and suspicious activities, taking appropriate action as necessary.Assist in the development of emergency response strategies and safety protocols.Prepare crime report summaries and review documentation for accuracy.Investigate and report potential Title IX issues.Provide assistance for non-emergency situations, including lock-outs and vehicle assistance.Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to safety and parking activities.Monitor parking equipment and report malfunctions.Issue citations for parking violations and ensure compliance with regulations.Foster effective working relationships with campus community members.Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Understanding of law enforcement principles and crime prevention strategies.Familiarity with Title IX investigation processes.Knowledge of California Education and Safety Codes.Ability to communicate effectively and maintain accurate records.Skills in conflict resolution and emergency response.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent.45 semester units of college credit or equivalent training.Two years of security or police experience, or equivalent military experience.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid California Driver's license.Current CPR certification.Ability to meet psychological standards for law enforcement personnel.
