Recovery Support Specialist Intern

About the Role

This internship is designed for individuals pursuing a bachelor's degree related to social work or the Recovery Support Specialist certification. As a Recovery Support Specialist Intern, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to create a safe and supportive environment for consumers to process crisis events, learn wellness strategies, and prevent future crises.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support to guests, utilizing your personal recovery experiences to create a non-judgmental and empathetic space.
  • Act as a role model for persons in recovery, demonstrating effective coping techniques, self-help strategies, and self-care.
  • Assist guests in identifying strengths, recovery, and wellness goals, and develop individual plans to achieve these goals.
  • Inform guests about community and natural supports, and provide on-site Living Room support and introduction to services at NM KCH and VW.
  • Build relationships with local police, fire, emergency departments, and other organizations to promote awareness of Living Room services.
  • Advocate within systems to promote person-centered recovery support services, and work with an interdisciplinary team to review cases and develop individual plans.
Requirements
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree related to social work or the Recovery Support Specialist certification.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
