Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Specialist to join our team at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals. As a key member of our Neuroscience department, you will provide direct patient care and support services in an in-patient or out-patient environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide basic patient care, including taking and recording vital signs, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Observe patients to ensure their safety and well-being, and report observations to the Charge Nurse or appropriate designee.
  • Maintain therapeutic plans of care and provide minute-to-minute care for patients at extreme risk to themselves or others.
  • Complete documentation as required on the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Participate in educational programs, read current literature, and attend in-services, meetings, and workshops to enhance professional growth and development.
Requirements
  • High School or GED Equivalent.
  • Certificate in Nursing or Emergency Medical Technology (EMT-B) or completion of one semester of an accredited nursing program.
  • 6 months of patient care experience.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuer certification within 30 days.
Working Conditions

This position involves heavy work, exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. The working conditions include significant hazards, such as chemicals and biohazardous materials requiring personal protective equipment (PPE), and limited access to the medical room with a medical administration policy in place.
